There are four main sections to the internal combustion engine:

Engine Block - main engine block, cranckshaft, pistons, piston rights, connectig rod pin, connecting rod, camshft, lifters, oil pump, oil pump drive, gaskets & seals, freeze plugs, oil pan & assorted bolts.

Cylinder heads - main head cylinder body, intake & exhaust valves, valve keepers, valve spring, valve spring retainer, valve stem seal

Air/Fuel Intake System - intake maifold, fuel injector, fuel injection system, air filter

Exhaust System - exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, muffler.
